Overview

The Associated Students of Southern Oregon University (ASSOU) is the official student government of SOU. ASSOU is comprised of representatives elected and appointed to serve the needs of the SOU community. The primary purpose of ASSOU is to provide advocacy for students on local, state, and national levels. Through the proper allocation of time and resources, ASSOU provides a wide variety of student-oriented initiatives and services, such as student vote campaigns, funding for clubs and organizations, sustainable innovations, state/national legislative representation, community service opportunities, and much more.
ASSOU operates under three separate branches: the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, and the Judicial Branch. There are also several committees and task forces that help to complete the work of ASSOU.
ASSOU's Executive Branch is responsible for enforcing student student government policies, as well as acting as its administrative body. It consists of the President, the Vice President, and the Cabinet, appointed by the President. It provides major support for the above mentioned services.
The Legislative Branch is ASSOU's main representative body. It seeks to serve student interests by reaching out to various student groups and organizations, giving them otherwise unavailable representation. The Judicial Branch is responsible for interpreting the laws and policies of ASSOU. It is composed of four justices and one chief justice who render decisions on cases of rule violations throughout the student government. The judiciary is also responsible for upholding ASSOU's Code of Conduct and giving rulings on impeachment trials and rules which may be unconstitutional.
